WebThe crystal structure of 1 consists of nitrate anions, nitronium cations, and [Zr (NO 3) 3 (H 2 O) 3] + complex cations in which the Zr IV atom is coordinated by three water molecules and three bidentate nitrate groups. The coordination polyhedron of the Zr IV atom is a tricapped trigonal prism formed by nine oxygen atoms. Zircon is a mineral belonging to the group of nesosilicates and is a source of the metal zirconium. Its chemical name is zirconium(IV) silicate, and its corresponding chemical formula is ZrSiO4. An empirical formula showing some of the range of substitution in zircon is (Zr1–y, REEy)(SiO4)1–x(OH)4x–y.
